APPLICATION OF LAWS ACT

An Act to regulate the application in Brunei Darussalam of the common law of England, the doctrines of equity and statutes of general application

Commencement: 25th April 1951

Short title.

1. This Act may be cited as the Application of Laws Act.

Application of common law, doctrines of equity and statute of generalapplication.

2. Subject to the provisions of this Act and save in so far as other provision has been or may hereafter be made by any written law in force inBrunei Darussalam, the common law of England and the doctrines of equity,together with statutes of general application, as administered or in force inEngland at the commencement of this Act, shall be in force in BruneiDarussalam:

Provided that the said common law, doctrines of equity and statutes ofgeneral application shall be in force in Brunei Darussalam so far only as thecircumstances of Brunei Darussalam and of its inhabitants permit and subject tosuch qualifications as local circumstances and customs render necessary.
