EXCHANGE OF NOTES BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED KINGDOM MODIFYING THE AGREEMENT OF SEPTEMBER 11, 1964 CONCERNING THE STATUS OF CANADIAN FORCES IN BERMUDA

Sir,

I have the honour to refer to the agreement constituted by the Exchange of Notes of September 11, 1964, between the Government of Canada and the Government of the United Kingdom concerning the status of the Canadian Forces in Bermuda.

As a result of the expansion of facilities and the updating of equipment designed to increase the efficiency of the radio station, an increase of the establishment of Canadian Forces personnel permanently stationed in Bermuda from 50 to 100 all ranks is required. With the approval of the Government of the United Kingdom, the concurrence of the Governor and Commander in Chief, Bermuda, in the proposed increase was sought and received.

Accordingly, I have the honour to propose that the Schedule to the Annex to the Agreement of September 11, 1964, shall be replaced by the Revised Schedule set out in the enclosure to this Note.

If this proposal is acceptable to the Government of the United Kingdom, I have the honour to propose that this Note, together with its enclosure, both of which are authentic in English and French, and your reply to that effect shall constitute an Agreement between the two Governments amending the Schedule to the Annex to the Agreement of September 11, 1964. The amending Agreement shall enter into force on the date of your reply and shall remain in force until terminated by either party upon six months’ written notice to the other, or until termination of the Agreement of September 11, 1964, whichever shall first occur.

Your Excellency,

I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your Note of the 16th of December, 1969 in the English and French languages, which read as follows:

“Sir,

I have the honour to refer to the Agreement constituted by the Exchange of Notes of September 11, 1964, between the Government of Canada and the Government of the United Kingdom concerning the status of the Canadian Forces in Bermuda.

2. In reply I have the honour to state that the above proposal is acceptable to the Government of the United Kingdom who agree that Your Excellency’s Note and this reply, together with their enclosures, shall constitute an Agreement between the two Governments amending the Schedule to the Annex to the Agreement of the 11th of September, 1964. The amending Agreement shall enter into force on this day’s date and shall remain in force until terminated by either party upon six months’ written notice to the other, or until termination of the Agreement of the 11th of September, 1964, whichever shall first occur.
