Long Term Commercial Wheat Agreement between Canada and Algeria [1976] CATSer 20 (27 May 1976)

LONG TERM COMMERCIAL WHEAT AGREEMENT BETWEEN CANADA AND ALGERIA

The Government of Canada and the Government of the Democratic and Popular Republic of Algeria, desirous of fostering closer trade and economic relations between the two countries, have agreed as follows regarding a long term wheat agreement:

ARTICLE I

Algeria shall buy through the “Office algérien interprofessionnel des céréales” and Canada shall supply through the Canadian Wheat Board, between a minimum of 500,000 metric tons and a maximum of 675,000 metric tons of Canadian durham wheat, five per cent more or less for shipment from Canadian ports during the tenure of the agreement in the following quantities:

between a minimum of 125,000 metric tons and a maximum of 150,000 metric tons in the period August 1, 1976 to July 31, 1977,

between a minimum of 200,000 metric tons and a maximum of 225,000 metric tons in the period August 1, 1977 to July 31, 1978,

between a minimum of 175,000 metric tons and a maximum of 300,000 metric tons in the period August 1, 1978 to July 31, 1979.

These quantities may be plus or minus five per cent at the option of the “Office algérien interprofessionnel des céréales”.

ARTICLE II

Under this Agreement, the “Office algérien interprofessionnel des céréales” and the Canadian Wheat Board shall conclude a master contract which will serve as a basis for sales contracts in respect of each transaction. The type and grades of wheat, delivery terms, prices and other commercial conditions shall be negotiated and agreed according to the said sales contracts between the two parties.

ARTICLE III

Quantities of Canadian durham wheat which may be purchased and supplied in excess of the maximum amounts provided for in Article I shall be subject to separate negotiations between the two parties on the basis of the buyer’s requirements and the seller’s supply position.

ARTICLE IV

This Agreement will enter into force on the day of signature and will remain in effect until July 31, 1979.


DONE in Algiers, on the 27th day of May nineteen hundred and seventy-six, in two copies in the English and French languages, both versions being equally authentic.
