EXCHANGE OF NOTES BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA EXTENDING FOR THREE YEARS THE TRADE AGREEMENT OF OCTOBER 13, 1973
I
The Secretary of State for External Affairs of Canada to the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China
Ottawa, October 13, 1976
No. FLA-610
His Excellency Chang Wen-chin,
Ambassador of the People's Republic of China,
Ottawa
Excellency,
I have the honour to refer to the Trade Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of the People's Republic of China, done at Peking on October 13, 1973, and now due to expire on October 13, 1976.
Article X of the Agreement provides that the validity of the Agreement may be extended for another three years if the two Contracting Parties agree thereto not less than three months prior to the expiration of the Agreement.
The Government of Canada considers it desirable to extend the Agreement for a further period of three years. I, therefore, have the honour to propose, on behalf of the Government of Canada, that this Agreement be extended to October 13, 1979.
I have the honour further to propose that, if acceptable to the Government of the People's Republic of China, this Note, which is authentic in English and in French, and your Excellency's reply to that effect shall constitute an Agreement between our two Governments, which is effective from July 13, 1976.
Accept, Excellency, the renewed assurances of my highest consideration.
Donald C. Jamieson
Secretary of State for External Affairs
II
