People's Republic of China

Your Excellency,

I have the honour to refer to the Trade Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of the People's Republic of China done at Peking on October 13, 1973, and to the exchange of Notes between our two Governments done at Ottawa on October 13, 1976, extending the Trade Agreement to October 13, 1979.

Having in mind the recent discussions between our two Governments concerning trade and economic cooperation, this Note, which is authentic in English and in French, and Your Excellency's reply to that effect shall constitute an agreement between our two Governments, effective from October 13, 1979, renewing the Trade Agreement for a period of three years from October 13, 1979, on the understanding that it may be extended for additional three-year periods if the two contracting par­ties agree thereto no less than three months prior to its expiration. It is also under­stood that the Trade Agreement may be terminated at any time by either Govern­ment on twelve months' written notice to the other.
