ACT NO. 55 OF 1956 AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF JUDGES

Short title. 1. Short title. This act may be called the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Act, 1956.

Maximum number of Supreme Court Judges other than Chief Justice. 2. Maximum number of Supreme Court Judges other than Chief Justice. The maximum number of Judges of the Supreme Court, excluding the Chief Justice of India, shall be 1[twenty five] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 Subs. by Act 48 of 1977, s. 2, for "thirteen". 2 Subs. by Act 22 of 1986, s. 2. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
