EXCHANGE OF LETTERS BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA AND THE GOVERNMENT OF JORDAN RELATING TO TRADE ARRANGEMENTS Amman, 3 July 1961 LETTERS Amman 3 July, 1961 Dear Mr. Ambassador, Following the recent discussions in New Delhi between the Jordanian, Trade Delegation and Representatives of the Government of India,
the two Governments have now a clearer picture of the possibilities of stepping up the trade between the two countries and have reached
certain conclusions which I have the honour to set out in the following paragraphs 1. The two Governments reaffirm their desire to promote the trade between their respective countries and agree to endeavour, within
the framework of their respective import, export and foreign exchange regulations, to increase the volume of trade between the two
countries. 2. The two Governments shall accord to the Commerce of each other treatment no less favourable than that accorded to the commerce
of any third country : 3. The provision of para 2 above shall not, however, apply to the grant or continuance of any (a) advantages accorded by either of the Contracting Parties to contiguous countries; (b) advantages resulting from any Customs union or free trade area to which either of the Contracting Parties is or may become a party; (c) preferences or advantages, accorded by India or Jordan to any country, existing on the date of this arrangement or in so far as
India is concerned in replacement of such preferences or advantages that existed prior to the 15th August, 1947; or (d) advantages accorded by virtue of a multilateral economic agreement designed to liberalise conditions of international commerce. 4. The two Governments shall take all appropriate measures to promote trade between the two countries in all possible ways, in particular
with regard to items mentioned in Schedules 'A' and 'B' attached to this letter; 5. This arrangement shall come into operation from the dathof its signature and shall remain in force for. a period of one year. It
may be extended for a further period subject to such modifications as may be agreed upon by mutual consultations.
