Sentences of escaped prisoners or absconding accused

273.
(1) No prisoner shall by reason of his escape from prison avoid any unexpired term of imprisonment or any other punishment to which he was liable under any sentence passed on him prior to his escape.
(2) When a sentence is passed on an accused who was absent at his trial or was evading arrest or absconding, such sentence shall take effect immediately upon his arrest.
