56. The following new section is hereby inserted immediately after section 107, and shall have effect as section 107A of the principal enactment:
107A.
| | (1) Any passenger arriving in Sri Lanka may be searched and his baggage landed, examined and delivered by such officers and in accordance with such regulations as the Minister may prescribe by Notification published in the Gazette; and if any prohibited, restricted or uncustomed goods are found concealed in the baggage of any passenger arriving in Sri Lanka or upon his person or in any place in which they have been put by his direction or with his connivance either before or after landing, the same shall be forfeited, together with the contents of the packages and the packages containing the same. | | |
| | (2) Any passenger leaving Sri Lanka may be searched and his baggage examined by such officers and in accordance with such regulations as the Minister may prescribe by Notification published in the Gazette, and if any prohibited, restricted or uncustomed goods are found concealed in the baggage of any passenger leaving Sri Lanka or upon his person or in any place in which they have been put by his direction or with his connivance either before or after embarkation, the same shall be forfeited, together with the contents of the packages and the packages containing the same. | | |
| | (3) No female passenger shall be searched by any person other than a female duly authorized in that behalf by the Collector. | | |
| | (4) Every regulation made by the Minister under this section shall as soon as convenient after its publication in the Gazette be brought before Parliament for, approval. Any regulation which is not so approved shall be deemed to be rescinded as from the date of disapproval, but without prejudice to any thing previously done thereunder. | | |
| | (5) Notification of the date on which any regulation made by the Minister is so deemed to be rescinded shall be published in the Gazette.". | | |
