Code Of Criminal Procedure Act (No. 15 of 1979) - Sect 107

Peace officers to prevent cognizable offence. Information of attempt to commit such offence

107.
(1) Every peace officer may interpose for the purpose of preventing and shall to the best of his ability prevent the commission of any congnizable offence.
(2) Every peace officer receiving information of an attempt to commit any cognizable offence shall communicate such information to the officer to whom he is immediately subordinate or to some other officer whose duty it is to prevent or take cognizance of the commission of any such offence. Peace officers may arrest without order or warrant to prevent such offence.
(3) A peace officer knowing of an attempt to commit any cognizable offence may arrest without orders from a Magistrate and without a warrant the person so attempting if it appears to such officer that the commission of the offence cannot be otherwise prevented. Prevention of injury to public property.
(4) A peace officer may of his own authority interpose to prevent any injury attempted to be committed in his view to any public property movable or immovable or the removal of injury of any public landmark or buoy or other mark used for navigation. Assistance to inspectors of weights and measures.
(5) It shall be the duty of every peace officer to give immediate information to an inspector of weights and measures of any breach of any provision of any enactment for the time being in force relating to weights and measures and at the request of any such inspector to assist him in carrying out the provisions of any such enactment.
