| 452. In every case where the committal or remand of any person to custody pending inquiry or trial is authorized by any written law, the court may, if such person is a woman or under the age of sixteen years, in lieu of committing or remanding such person to the custody of the superintendent of a prison, direct that for the period for which such committal or remand may otherwise have been ordered under that law, such person shall remain in the custody of a probation officer or in an approved home.In this section " approved home " means home or other similar institution for women or persons under the age of sixteen years, which has been approved by the Minister by notification published in the Gazette. |
