(1) A person on a Ceylon ship shall not, when the ship is going ahead, give a helm or steering order-
| | (a) containing the word " starboard " or " right ", or any equivalent thereof, unless he intends that the head of the ship shall move to the right; | | |
| | (b) containing the word " port " or " left ", or any equivalent thereof, unless he intends that the head of the ship shall move to the left. | | |

(2) Any person who contravenes the provisions of sub-section (1) shall be guilty of an offence and on conviction thereof shall be liable to a fine not exceeding one thousand rupees. |
