(1) After a collision between ships, the master of each ship shall, if and so far as he can do so without danger to his own ship, crew and passengers (if any),-
| | (a) make his best efforts to give to the other ship, the master, crew and passengers (if any) thereof such assistance as may be practicable and as may be necessary to save them from any danger caused by the collision; | | |
| | (b) stand by the other ship, until he has ascertained that such ship has no need of further assistance; | | |
| | (c) give the master of the other ship the name and port of registry of his ship, and the names of the ports from which his ship sailed and to which his ship is bound. | | |

(2) If the master of a ship fails, without reasonable cause, to comply with any provision of sub-section (1), he shall be guilty of an offence and on conviction thereof shall be liable to imprisonment of either description for a term not exceeding two years, or to a fine not exceeding three thousand rupees, or to both such imprisonment and fine. |
