(1) Every Shipping Officer and Surveyor shall have the same power as the Director has under section 208 of ordering the provisional detention of a ship for the purpose of survey or for ascertaining the sufficiency of her crew, and of appointing a person or persons to survey the ship; and if he thinks that a ship so detained by him is not unsafe he may order such ship to be released. |

(2) Any officer detaining a ship under sub-section (1) shall forthwith report to the Director any order made by him for the detention or release of a ship. |

(3) Any person surveying a ship under paragraph (c) of sub-section (2) of section 20S, and any officer detaining a ship under sub-section (1) of this section, shall, for the purpose of such survey and detention, have the same power as a person appointed by a Court of Survey constituted under Part VIII to survey a ship, and the provisions of this Act with respect to a person so appointed shall apply accordingly; and the powers exercisable by such person or officer shall include power to muster the crew of the ship. |
