(1) Surveyors shall, in relation to ships surveyed by them, make such returns to the Chief Surveyor of Ships as the latter requires with respect to-
| | (a) the build, dimensions, draught, burden, rate of sailing and room for fuel of such ships; | | |
| | (b) the nature and particulars of machinery and the equipment of such ships; and | | |
| | (c) such other details of such ships as may be prescribed by the Minister. | | |

(2) Every owner, master and engineer of any ship surveyed by a Surveyor shall, on demand, give to the Surveyor such information and assistance within his power as the Surveyor may require for the purpose of making any return under sub-section (1). |

(3) Any owner, master, or engineer of a ship who, after demand by a Surveyor, fails without reasonable cause to give information or assistance pursuant to sub-section (2) shall be guilty of an offence and on conviction thereof shall be liable to a fine not exceeding one hundred rupees. |
