13.
| (1) Every police officer, officer of the Sri Lanka Customs, officer of the Armed Forces, or officer of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority with specialized knowledge specially designated in writing by the Minister, shall for the purposes of this Act, be an authorized officer, |

| (2) Every authorized officer shall be deemed to be a peace officer and an inquirer within the meaning of the Code of Criminal Procedure Act, No. 15 of 1979, for exercising, for the purposes of this Act, any powers and duties conferred or imposed on a peace officer, or on an inquirer with respect to cognizable offences, by that Act. |
