| (1) Where a Primary Court imposes a sentence of imprisonment on an offender it may order that the sentence shall not take effect unless during the period of eighteen months from the date of the order the offender commits another offence punishable with imprisonment. |

| (2) Where a Primary Court makes an order under sub- section (1) of this section, the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure Act, No. 15 of 1979, relating to suspended sentences of imprisonment other than subsections (1) and (2) of section 303 of that Act shall apply, mutatis mutandis, to that order, and for that purpose the period of eighteen months referred to in subsection (1) of this section shall be deemed to be the "operational period" referred to in those provisions. |
