Presidential Elections Act (No. 15 of 1981) - Sect 56

Commissioner to ascertain whether any candidate obtains absolute majority

56.
(1) The Commissioner shall forthwith ascertain from the statements under section 55 furnished to him by all the returning officers whether any candidate has received more than one-half of the valid votes cast at the election.
(2) Where any candidate has received more than one-half of the valid votes cast, the Commissioner shall forthwith declare such candidate elected to the office of President.
