(1) After the receipt of the documents referred to in section 37, the returning officer shall, from the statements under subsection (7) of section 35 furnished to him by all the counting officers (including the counting officers at the counting centres where postal ballot papers were counted) prepare a return in respect of the electoral district showing

| (a) the number of votes given in favour of the proposal; | | |

| (b) the number of votes given against the proposal; | | |

| (c) the number of votes rejected; and | | |
|
| (d) the whole number of electors in the register of electors. | | |
