9. Section 10 of the principal enactment is hereby amended as follows:-
(1) by the repeal of subsection (1) of that section and the substitution therefor, of the following subsection:-

| | | (a) The first Venerable Vice-Chancellor of the University shall a Bhikkhu appointed by the president. Every subsequent Venerable Vice -Chancellor shall subject to the provisions of paragraph (b) and (c)be appointed by the President upon the recommendation of the Minister from a panel of three Bhikkhu nominated by the Council of the University. |
| (b) No person shall be appointed as Venerable Vice-Chancellor of the University for more that two consecutive terms. |
| (c) The Venerable Vice-Chancellor of the University may be removed by the President after consultation with the Minister. |
| (d) Any Venerable Vice-Chancellor who vacates office by reason of the expiration of his term of office or by resignation shall have the right to revert to the substantive post held by him before he was appointed to the post of Venerable Vice-Chancellor". |

(2) by the substitution for the expression "Vice -Chancellor" wherever it appears in subsection (2), (3),(4),(5),(6) (7),and (8) of that section of the expression "Venerable Vice-Chancellor"; and |
|
(3) by the insertion immediately after subsection (3) of that section of the following new subsection:-
| | "(9) If any vacancy occurs in the office of the Venerable Vice-Chancellor, the Secretary shall make such arrangement as he may think fit for the performance of the duties of that office until a permanent appointment is made under subsection (1) (a). | | |
| | (10) Notwithstanding any thing in this Act the Venerable Vice-Chancellor holding office on the day preceding the date of coming into operation of this section, shall cease to hold office on such date. | | |
