IN exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections
30(5) and 31(6) of the Education Act (Cap. 327), the Chancellor of the University of Malta has promulgated the following bye-laws made by the Board of the
Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering in virtue of the powers conferred upon it by section 37 (1) of the said Act and which have been approved by the Senate of the University of Malta as required by section 37 (2) of the said Act:
1. (1) These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws of 2005 in terms of the General Regulations for University Undergraduate
Awards,
2004 for the Degree of Bachelor of Engineering and Architecture (Honours) - B.E.&A. (Hons) - under the auspices of the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering.
(2) In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires -
"the Board" means the Board of the Faculty of Architecture and Civil
Engineering;
"the Course" means the course programme leading to the degree of
Bachelor of Engineering and Architecture (Honours) - B.E.&A. (Hons); and
"the Degree" means the degree of Bachelor of Engineering and
Architecture (Honours) - B.E.&A. (Hons).

Applicability2. These bye-laws shall be applicable for courses commencing in
October 2003 or later.
3. To be registered as regular students in the Course, applicants shall, apart from satisfying the general requirements
for admission as specified in the Admission Regulations, be in possession of the special
course requirements listed hereunder:

(a) two passes at Advanced Matriculation Level at Grade C or
(i) Pure Mathematics, or Applied Mathematics; and
(ii) Physics
(b) a pass at Intermediate Matriculation Level in one of the
following subjects: Applied Mathematics (Mechanics), Art, Chemistry, Computing, Engineering Drawing and Graphical Communication, History,
Information Technology, Philosophy, Pure Mathematics, Sociology.

4. The Course shall extend over a period of five years of full-time

(a) Part One shall comprise the first three years of the Course and shall be common to all students; and
(b) Part Two shall comprise the fourth and fifth years of the
Course and shall comprise compulsory and elective study-units.

6. (1) The elective study-units shall be grouped according to aspects of Architecture and Urban Design or Building and
Civil Engineering that students may opt to study in more depth.
(2) The programme shall include at least one group of elective study-units in Architecture and / or Urban Design and at least one
group of elective study-units in Building Engineering and / or Civil Engineering in each semester of the fourth year and in the first
semester of the fifth year.
(3) Students shall be required to choose one group of elective study-units in each of the three semesters, provided that the students’
choice is subject to the approval of the Board.
7. The overall evaluation of each student’s performance shall be based on the results obtained in each year of the Course weighted according to the following criteria:
First Year Average Mark | 10% |
Second Year Average Mark | 10% |
Third Year Average Mark | 15% |
Fourth Year Average Mark | 25% |
Fifth Year Average Mark | 40%. |
