FOOD SAFETY ACT (CAP. 449)

Colours (Use in Foodstuffs) (Amendment) Regulations, 2007

IN exercise of the powers conferred by article 10 of the Food Safety Act, the Minister of Health, the Elderly and Community Care has made the following regulations>–

1. The title of these regulations is the Colours (Use in Foodstuffs) (Amendment) Regulations, 2007, and they shall be read and construed as one with the Colours (Use in Foodstuffs) Regulations, 1995, hereinafter referred to as “the principal regulations”.

2. These regulations implement the provisions of Commission Directive 2006#33#EC of 20th March, 2006, and they shall enter into force on the 10th April, 2007.

3. In the Third Schedule to the principal regulations, for paragraph E 110 relating to Sunset Yellow FCF there shall be substituted the following>

Amends the Third Schedule to the principal regulations.

“E 110 SUNSET YELLOW FCFSynonyms CI Food Yellow 3, Orange Yellow SDefinition Sunset Yellow FCF consists essentially of disodium 2- hydroxy-1-(4-sulfonatophenylazo) naphthalene-6- sulfonate and subsidiary colouring matters together with sodium chloride and/or sodium sulfate as the principal uncoloured components.

Sunset Yellow FCF is described as the sodium salt. The calcium and the potassium salt are also permitted.

4. In part 1 of the Fifth Schedule to the principal regulations, for paragraph E 171 relating to Titanium Dioxide, there shall be substituted the following>

Amends the Fifth Schedule to the principal regulations.

“E 171 TITANIUM DIOXIDESynonyms CI Pigment White 6Definition Titanium dioxide consists essentially of pure anatase and/or rutile titanium dioxide which may be coated with small amounts of alumina and/or silica to improve the technological properties of the product.
