These Regulations may be cited as the Patents Regulations 1986 and shall come into force on the 1 October 1986.

Note: Saving And Transitional.
Any registration as a patent granted under the principal Regulations and in force immediately before the commencement of these Regulations shall, in so far as its grant is not inconsistent with these Regulations, be deemed to have been granted under these Regulations and shall continue in force until it expires. Any application for registration as a patent agent or application for renewal of registration as a patent agent made or pending before the date of coming into force of these Regulations shall be deemed to have been made under the principal Regulations and the principal Regulations shall continue to apply to such applications as if the principal Regulations had not been amended:

Provided that the registration of such person as a patent agent shall he for a term expiring on 31 December 1995 and for the purposes of this proviso the prescribed fee shall be propotionate to the term to be renewed.
