Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka Act (No. 35 of 2002) - Sect 16

General powers of the Commission

16. Without prejudice to the powers expressly conferred on the Commission by this Act, the Commission by this Act, the Commission shall have the power-
(a) to engage, subject to section 13, from time to time the services of consultants or advisors as it may consider necessary to assist in the discharge of its functions and remunerate such persons out of the Fund of the Commission in such manner and at such rates as may be determined by the Commission ;
(b) to enter into agreements with regulated entities ;
(c) to acquire and hold property movable and immovable, and to sell, lease, mortgage, exchange, or otherwise dispose of the same ;
(d) to enter into such contracts as may be necessary for the exercise, performance and discharge of its powers, duties and functions ;
(e) to acquire such right, privileges, licences and authorities as may be necessary for the effective discharge of its functions ;
(f) to levy fees ; and
(g) generally to do all such other acts and things as are incidental to or consequential upon the exercise, performance and discharge of its powers, duties and functions under this Act and any other industry Act.
